Default 03 Freelander engine question

I am working on an '03 Freelander for a friend of mine, and I'm not particularly familiar with this model, i'm looking for someone who is. He gave it to me with a non-running engine, suspecting a broken timing belt. Upon closer inspection by myself, however, the timing belt appears to be new(er) and not broken, BUT, the right bank cam sprocket has completely sheered off the end of the cam, and there is a large hole in the side of the composite intake manifold, along with some busted vacuum lines. Anyone seen any thing like this, or have any idea on what might be the cause of this?

This model is not well respected by Rover dealer techs. Lots of issues. That said, the RAVE shop manual download below has all the factory shop, overhaul, electrical, and owners manuals for the Freelanders, down load is free.

new engine,

sorry. but cams break on those at times and its a whole new engine.

the valves damage the engine and its over.

and finding a decent used engine is impossible. They all suck.

put a crap motor in it and sell it fast.
