Default SRS light

Ok so my SRS light has been on for a month or two now. Is there a common issue that causes this ie; seat belt or air bag. What do i have to look forward to?[&:]

the "SRS" light, Supplemental Restraint System commonly known as air bags. The light is programmed to come on after 10 years. It means the air bag system needs to be serviced. It does not mean you have recently had a failure in the system, or anything. You didn't say how old your vehicle is, but I'm betting it is over 10 years old.

They don't come on in 10 years, but it is recommended you have the system checked when it is 10 years old.
The SRS light will come on because of a low battery/voltage/ seat belt issue, failed spiral ring or any of a couple other issues. To find out for sure you have it scanned by a shop that has the correct scanner to read the SRS codes.

as a quick, cheap guess at it, grab a tube of di-electric grease from a parts store, with the key off, and having been off a 20 minutes, disconnect the yellow connectors under each of the front seats, and put some grease in there, make sure you get it on the pins, not just the shorting links. connect and disconnect them 3-4 times, and then put a little more grease in there. turn the key on, after its all back together and see what happens

ok, ill try that, will that clear the light if it works? or will i have to disconnect the battery terminals for a few minutes as well?

if its stored a hard fault, then itll need to be cleared, and seeing how its been on for a couple months, it most likely has. so chances are that your lights will probably stay on even if that is the fix

I have the same issue. Just thought it meant that it was indicating routine service. I only have 73K miles on an 01. Did you figure out what it was?
